Accounting Manager, Treasury

 

SUMMARY

Ballast Investments (“Ballast” or the “Company”) is seeking an Accounting Manager, Treasury to support the Treasury Accounting Vertical. Under the general supervision of the Controller, the Accounting Manager, Treasury is responsible for overseeing all activities related to treasury functions for multiple real estate entities, assisting with lender and equity partner reports and requests, supporting the reporting team with annual audits and tax returns, and will be responsible for training and management of the Treasury team staff.

The Company is a vertically-integrated owner-operator of multifamily, student housing, and single family rental assets in the greater Western United States. Primary Responsibilities

Ongoing Management

  • Gross receipt tax
  • Business registration
  • Open and close bank accounts
  • Positive pay
  • Processing cash movement including payments, receipts, and confirmation

 

Monthly

  • Supervise treasury accounting vertical and ensure compliance with third-party reporting requirements and deadlines
  • Manage bank accounts through online portals including access and banking changes
  • Contribute to monthly financial reporting packages and ensure accuracy of account balances, revenue, and expenses
  • Interface with lenders and equity partners to provide information and resolve questions
  • Support the preparation of financial reports for joint venture partners and lenders including cash analysis schedules, draw requests and other related documents
  • Understand cash flow sources and uses and monitoring, accrual and payment of mortgages, property taxes, insurance, and operating expenses
  • Coordinate with other accounting team managers, asset management, property operations, and other departments

 

Periodic

  • Review and reconcile ownership entity contributions/distributions in accordance with governing documents and request funding and documentation as needed
  • Train and mentor accounting team members and provide periodic performance reviews
  • Provide support with annual audit and tax returns including scheduling, providing information, and resolving outstanding questions
  • Create, analyze, and improve processes and procedures
  • Read and understand legal agreements including operating agreements, management agreements, loan documents, leases, and apply knowledge to property reporting
  • Other duties as assigned by Accounting Management and Executive teams
  • Weekly analysis of cash and payments

 

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business required or equivalent classes from a four‐year college; High school diploma required
  • Minimum five years or more accounting work experience
  • 2+ years of experience of management experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products and Microsoft Windows
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills required (filters, sorting, pivot tables, V lookup, etc.)
  • Real estate and/or property management experience required
  • Accounting software experience required; Yardi experience preferred

  • Detail oriented and able to manage and review large volume of data with speed and accuracy
  • Able to plan, organize, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
  • Establish and maintain efficient records retention of financial documents
  • Strong accounting background including experience with both general ledger and multi‐tier entity transactions
  • Knowledge and experience with partnership and JV entity reporting and structure
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written) with ability to communicate internally with team members as well as externally with lenders, investors, and service providers
